This morning I had my first appointment with my OB since receiving the diagnosis. I'm measuring (by fundal height) about 2-2.5 weeks ahead. That will likely go up due to increasing amniotic fluid due to baby not "consuming" as much. That's another story in and of itself that I won't bore you with, except to say, "And you thought I was HUGE when I was pregnant with Nathan!" Anyway, Dr. E. said that he would get the ball rolling by calling the Fetal Concerns Program at Children's Hospital of Wisconsin (CHW, in Milwaukee). And wow, the ball is now rolling.
I received a call later this morning from Andrea at CHW. She will coordinate our "introduction" to CHW, which includes appointments with a perinatologist (who will deliver our baby), a pediatric surgeon (may or may not be the one fixing baby's duodenum), a neonatologist (from the NICU), a lactation consultant (some babies with T21 have difficulties with nursing, and it could be a bigger problem since he won't be able to eat for a few days after he's born), and a child life specialist (a counselor who will work with us on communicating with Nathan), and a tour of both hospitals (labor & delivery, NICU, CHW). Andrea is great. She suggested we not do it all in one day if we don't have to because it can be information overload. But with up to 2 hours of transit time each direction, it makes more sense for us to try to do it in one day. So she set off to schedule our day in Milwaukee. It only took her a few hours to call me back with a complete schedule from 11am-4pm on Tuesday, Nov. 6th. Impressive.

Just to let you know, I was super scared that I wouldn't be able to breastfeed Chase. He couldn't nurse for his first 4 weeks. He was fed intravenously for 3 weeks, then bottle fed for a week before coming home.
I pumped like a fiend.
When he got home, I had to use a nursing sheild becuase it helped reach his sucking-reflex or some-such thing...anyhow. I used it for about a week-ish, then he really got the hang of nursing and we've had no issues since!
So, it is possible :) Just don't give up.
Jennie,
My name is Samantha and I live in NE wisconsin too! I have a 5 year old daughter who also has Down syndrome. PLEASE email me if you need anything, or have any questions. Did your doctor give you a packet of info? If not I have some and I would be happy to get one to you. My email is samantha.platkowski@gmail.com
Hey Jennie...I can't imagine what you are going through....but you are sooo right...God performs miracles! You know that faith and prays move God!!....The tongue is a double edged sword....Please hold on to your faith and BELIEVE that since your amnio your baby boy has already been healed...I'm not saying not to listen and report what the doctors say, but we both know that the devils comes to kill, steal and destroy....He wants to break your faith down. I want to share this with you...My sister was diagnosed about 2 years ago with very aggressive breast cancer...She was only 46 years old at the time! It had already spread to her lymph nodes so it wasn't looking good. She went around telling everyone that she was healed and NEVER confessed she had cancer. I'm sure people thought she was crazy b/c what she was confessing with her tongue was not the information that the Doctors were telling her. Everyone kept saying she was in denial but she wasn't...She heard what the doctors were saying, but she BELIEVED that God had healed her and refused to believe and think otherwise. She fought her diagnosis with God's words and promises!! She is now cancer free and it's only by the grace of God! I can't begin to know how you feel right now....nor do I know how I would handle it if I were in your shoes...but know this, I'm praying for you and I'm believing for you that your baby boy is HEALED!....God bless you sweetie!!

Jennie....I found this on Joel Osteen's website. Praise Him for his divine intervention and Believe that he has already healed!!...HTH....
No unbelief or distrust made him waver (doubtingly question) concerning the promise of God, but he grew strong and was empowered by faith as he gave praise and glory to God” (Romans 4:20 AMP).
Today's Word from Joel and Victoria
Praise is powerful! Praise is putting your faith in action. And just as putting your physical body into action to make it grow strong, putting your faith in action through prayer and thanksgiving will cause it to grow strong, too! I love what this verse says about Abraham: No unbelief made him waver regarding the promise of God. What does it mean to waver? To waver actually means to go back and forth. It’s a very unsteady posture. Spiritual wavering is when we go back and forth in believing the promises of God. Wavering shows up in our words and actions. When you speak contrary to God’s promises, you are wavering and unsteady. Notice this verse didn’t say that Abraham never had unbelief or doubting thoughts. It basically says that he didn’t let it control him or cause him to waver in his words, actions and thinking. He took captive every thought and stood strong through His praise and worship! Praise makes you stable. It makes you strong. Decide today to put your faith into action by thanking and praising Him all throughout the day! As you do, you’ll grow strong and live the life of victory God has in store for you!
A Prayer for Today
Heavenly Father, today I choose to bless Your name! I thank You for life. I thank You for breath. I thank You for provision, HEALING, strength and joy. I praise You for abundantly supplying all my needs so that I can be a blessing to others. In Jesus’ Name. Amen.
God is already with you, putting wonderful people in your road, sounds like Andrea is a big blessing.
Elias couldn't breastfeed, so we opted for formula, still he had problems to bottlefeed but after weeks of work it got much better
God bless you
Just thought of you today and popped over to wish you well throughout the rest of this week. Take care.
Just thought I'd share this with you....We miss you and hope you are doing okay!........
You are Equipped
Today's Scripture
“Every scripture is God-breathed…so that the man of God may be complete and proficient, well-fitted and thoroughly equipped for every good work (2 Timothy 3:16-17 AMP).
Today's Word from Joel and Victoria
God has equipped you with everything you need to fulfill your destiny through His Word! The Scripture tells us that as believers in Jesus Christ, we are anointed. The word “anointing” is the power of God which gives you courage, strength, and ability. That means you are well able to do what He has called you to do. You can accomplish your goals. You have the ideas, the creativity, and talent to be successful. You can overcome any obstacle! You’ve been armed with strength for every battle! The forces that are with you are greater than the forces that are against you! Not only has God equipped you, but He is also working on your behalf. He has already lined up the right people to come across your path. He’s already lined up the right breaks. You have everything you need to live a victorious life. You were created to excel! You have seeds of greatness on the inside of you. You may not have seen it in the past, but if you’ll stay in faith, it’s just a matter of time. It’s on its way. Don’t settle where you are. Don’t have a weak, defeated mentality. Have the attitude, “I am anointed. I can accomplish my dreams. I can overcome any obstacle. I am equipped and empowered by the Creator of the universe! I am able to live the abundant life God has in store!”
A Prayer for Today
Heavenly Father, thank You for equipping me. Thank You for empowering me. Help me stay focused on Your Word and Your plan for me today. Help me understand Your anointing so that I can do all you’ve called me to do. I bless You today. In Jesus’ Name. Amen.
Congrats Jennie on your expecting baby! My brother with Down syndrome is 2 1/2 years old. We didn't know he would have DS until he was born. It was a surprise to us, but it wasn't that bad of news to hear. He has been very healthy and is anything but what those doctors told us he would do or not do. He has totally exceeded what they said he would be like. What a joy he is to have around! Life would be so dull without him. He brings so much love, joy and smiles to us all.
