A Little Something Extra

The wait is over...

... we're officially moving to Minneapolis. Mark was "offered" a transfer within his company and it makes sense to take it (especially since he would have been given a pink slip if he had turned it down). This position will give him really good experience. Before Micah's arrival, we had planned on Mark taking some sort of position like this. But once we got into the world of numerous medical specialists, county Birth to Three services, private therapy options, school systems and inclusion, private school options for kids with special needs, etc., we decided that it probably wouldn't be a good idea to voluntarily move our family.

It's a great job for Mark. He'll enjoy it and his career will benefit. This is fantastic compared to many alternatives. And we are definitely blessed that he has a job.

That said... I'm more than a bit stressed about moving, especially so quickly (he starts on 8/3). We need to at least narrow down an area of town so that a realtor can start working for us. But we have a lot of due diligence to do as it relates to county and school services that would be available to our little guy. Once we have a general area, then I can attempt to find a preschool (or ten) where I can put Nathan on the wait list.

After that, I can start working on finding seven doctors, four therapists, and a dentist. Oh, and a church. Or maybe that should have a higher status on my list. It's these times that I wish I had a personal copy of Microsoft Project. Some of this stuff is sequential, some can be done in parallel... yes, I'm a geek.

Anyway... if any of you reading this are from the Twin Cities, please chime in and share your experiences and advice. Thanks in advance!

WHAT!? Well, we will certainly miss you. That's crazy soon!

I have a couple people I know in MN, I sent out some emails ... maybe they'll know something.

Wow, this is such a surprise. I hope you'll come visit often - and I'm so glad we'll be able to watch your boys grow, on the blog!

Jennie,

Maple Grove/Plymouth area is a GREAT area. It's what I know so that might have something to do with it.
Great neighborhoods, close to Children's Hospital (where all of Micah's specialists will be. I take Molly to the DS clinic there), great shopping, and great churches. I have friends in these school districts and they have high state test scores and excellent special ed programs.

Good Luck! Wow! That is a quick move!

Oh my goodness! We will miss you guys so much! We do go through Mpls a lot and will always call you when we are through.

When we lived there we lived in St Louis Park/Edina area and really liked it. We attended Grace Church in Eden Prairie its big, but has lots of opportunities in the church they have MOPS and Aerobics.

Let me know if there is anything I can do to help you out while you are going through the transition.

I am happy for you guys but sad you are leaving Neenah. I was looking forward to Micah joining Lil in the Neenah school system. I have a friend in the Twin Cities and will try to get his opinion re schools, neighborhoods, etc.

Hey! I saw your comment on my boys' shirts. I actually made them. I started a little business back in the fall and it has slowed down but I still like to do things for them. I have gotten more orders recently so I am getting back in the swing and enjoying it. How is the move stuff going?

Hi Jennie!
I will definitely keep you in my prayers.
Would the doctors in your area recommend specialists?
I would also think that the State Department of Education would have a listing of services that would accomodate Micah.
Arizona has a website called BOMEX (Board of Medical Examiners) in which you can enter a doctor's name to see if there have been complaints.
I have been impressed with the children's hospital we have in Phoenix as well as the Boston Children's Hospital.
Sorry we don't live closer so that I could help.
Hugs,
Peggy

Hi! I live in the Twin Cities and have lived here all my life. What area will your husbands job be in- a suburb? Downtown? We are located down in the Southwest suburbs- but still only about 25 minutes to downtown Minneapolis. We go to a large non-denominational, bible believing church and we absolutely love it. Let me know what area of the cities you need to look in- would love to give you all the info I can!

Oh, Jennie. You have so much on your plate and I know moving and packing and all the things you listed will be such a daunting task right now. I will add your move to my prayer list for your family. I will pray that you can put on your "whole armor" this summer. Many blessings and love to your family.
