Happy birthday, sweet Micah

The day has come... Micah turned one year old today. It's a bittersweet day. It's a blessing that he's even alive given everything that has gone on with him this year, especially that he almost didn't come out of the OR following his open-heart surgery because they had a hard time getting him off the bypass machine (he went back on bypass twice). But it's also a sad day for me because it's a major life marker, so what he is not doing becomes very evident (i.e. not eating anything by mouth and not sitting independently).

I'll post more photos later. We're having some computer issues and I don't want to be online very long.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY MICAH! Man I cant believe how fast this year has flown by. I remember the day he was born. Man it's amazing.
Don't fret over what he cannot do...he's been through so much in one year, and he WILL progress in his own time. I must say he is one beautiful child!

Micah- Happy Birthday sweet boy. You are adorable and such a tough little fighter. Praying that you continue to grow healthier and stronger each day.

PS Jennie Yesterday I was reading a blog of a mother celebrating her daughter's birthday, she was mentioning a similar bittersweet feeling in marking the milestones. Her daughter has developmental delays from a tragic car accident that also took the life of her oldest child. Anyway you may be interested in reading her post to see that you are not alone in this feeling and her blog is one of my favorite blogs so it is always worth checking out. Here is a link to her post from yesterday regarding birthdays:

Happy Birthday Micah! That, in itself is its own milestone.

Jen, I know about the feeling of bittersweet. My lo is just now starting to really eat by mouth at 15 months, and still relies on his feeding tube for his true nutrition. He too is very far behind developementally. I had a hard time at his first birthday as well till someone who loves me reminded that he is here with me - I can hold him, I can love him, and I am truly blessed that I get the chance to watch him grow, at whatever pace that might be.
