Quick update

Please pardon my lack of posts and photos.  My computer is in for repairs and it will be a couple more weeks before I get it back.

It's been a month since I last updated the blog about Micah's leg.  He is getting close to the level of mobility that he had prior to breaking his femur three months ago.  He has a very wide stance, so we will be working on that a bit (Holland mommies... think "hip helpers").  But he's getting up and walking more often and that has been very encouraging.

Micah had a very unpleasant experience with some dental x-rays last week.  I'll spare you the gory details of how the x-rays were obtained.  In a nutshell, his lateral incisors do exist, they just don't have room to come down.  One is sideways and the other is still high.  But all of the rest of his teeth are where they should be (and we hope he doesn't become a "biter" because he would do some serious damage... I've never seen eye teeth so sharp!).

The best news of the day/week/month: Micah drank 3 ounces of smoothie at lunch today!  This is HUGE, as he hasn't allowed 3 ounces of fluid to pass his lips since he was about 3 months old.

Other Micah fun stuff: he loves to dance, especially to a CD of a group called Go Fish; his addiction to Blues Clues is still strong, but he has added Mickey Mouse Clubhouse to the daily requests (had this happened a year earlier, we might have avoided the outright scream fest that ensued when he saw said oversized mouse at a certain theme park last summer); he loves to climb and will attempt to reach the top of any playset he finds (which inevitably means that I have to reach the top as well, in order to coax him down); he is playing a bit more with his brothers these days; his speech and language are progressing well this summer and I hope his teachers find that valuable in the fall when school starts; he continues to be the life of the party, especially in a familiar environment, unless there are noises that send him into crying fits (i.e. a child playing a guitar); his giggle is contagious and he loves to make it a game to keep you laughing with him.

Other Micah medical stuff: upcoming appt with a urologist to address an issue with his "little boy" surgery he had when he was one year old; new prescription for his glasses that will hopefully address the increase in eye crossing he is showing (otherwise, there's still a possibility it would need to be fixed surgically); simple visit at the GI doc this month and we came away with a "healthy child... check up in 6 months".

I'm heading to the NDSC (National Down Syndrome Congress) annual convention next week and I'm looking forward to meeting some of my blogging and Facebook friends there.  Micah's SLP is heading there too.  I'll also be able to catch up with some of my WI peeps, many of whom are attending sans children as well.  Margaritas, anyone? :-)  Oh, and I'm sure I'll learn a lot too.

I'd like to wish my hubby a "happy birthday."  He's camping with Nathan right now and we'll hopefully celebrate tonight with the whole family.  Please say a prayer that Matthew feels better (high temp, extremely swollen glands on the left side of his neck, headache, white dots on throat but strep test negative).

Glad to read about Micah's recovery! Bless his heart--- I know it's been a long road. And feel free to ask me any questions about the eye surgery. We have one of the top pedi strabismus specialists in the nation.
Wish I could be at the conference! Things just didn't work out this year. Have fun!

OMG!I have been concerned because Elijah won't drink more than about 7 oz a day, and now I hear that you've had the same problem with Micah!! Any reasons that you've come across? How do you get fluids into him- through solids? Inquiring minds want to know...
