3.21

March 21st - the 21st day of the 3rd month of the year
This is the date chosen as World Down Syndrome Day because Down syndrome is a result of 3 copies of the 21st chromosome (Trisomy 21).

We didn't "celebrate" this date above any other in Micah's life (though some others' activities did sound fun).  I do find it a bit ironic that on this particular date, Micah's healthcare will be changed forever.  The least of these will suffer most from today's disaster.  There WILL be rationing because many doctors will either close their practice or stop accepting Medicaid, which we will all end up on because the insurance companies will not be able to compete against government-subsidized (and bankrupt) insurance (aka Medicaid).  We need a healthcare fix, but this is not the right fix.   But I digress...

On to the reason we celebrate.  Micah has started to scrunch up his nose and do an open-mouth smile when you ask him to give his "cheesy grin."  It's hilarious!

We love you, sweet boy.  You bring joy to so many...

LOVE the smile! And I agree with your take on the healthcare...they were playing it last night like it was a celebration...so sad. We don't qualify for Medicaid here (miss it by like $300/mo...grrrr) but either way, it'll change things in ways I don't think we'll like.

And I haven't forgotten about you! Just have a horrible time getting to emails lately!

Let me start off by saying your boy is quite cute! But I have GOT to comment on what you say about healthcare. Should there be rationing for Medicaid?? ABSOLUTELY!!!!!!! Is there something wrong with a physician refusing to accept Medicaid patients?? Not by a long shot!! All people should have healthcare available regardless of their income. Should they all expect the best of everything without having to pay for it (or pay very little) NO WAY!! That's no different than saying all people should have access to food. They most definitely should. But is it wrong for a 5-star chef to refuse $10 in food stamps as payment for a gourmet meal?? There's nothing wrong with the best and brightest physicians refusing to treat Medicaid patients when it actually can end up costing THEM money to see those people. That's part of what's wrong with healthcare now. Medicaid is broke because people expect to have multi-thousand dollar tests done - multiple times, utilize the system to get whatever they want, whenever they want. They want the best of everything, yet don't want to pay
